My
current tank is 90 gallons with a 29 gallon refugium setup for 2 years
now. Currently in my main tank the live sand bed is about 6" deep(160#)
with a plenum. Nitrates stay at unmeasurable levels. The reef structure
is made up of 150# of live rock and approx. 30# of base and tuffa rock.

Lighting
consists of a single 400w Metal Halide bulb, 6500k. Eventually I plan
on adding a second 400w to further fuel my stony coral growth and eliminate
the shadow of the center brace.

|
Circulation
is handled by two opposing powerheads. An overflow is used to bring
the water to the refugium and returned to the main tank with a Maxi-jet
powerhead. The refugium is home to many critters (amphipods,
mysid shrimp, bristleworms, etc.) and growing full of various macroalgae.
I was using a skimmer but have noticed no decline in coral growth or
overall health since the skimmer was removed 8 months ago.
